Jewelry box

A jewelry box is a small piece, but it is one of the most carefully built items in the catalogue. Boxes are joined with hand-cut dovetails (no nails, no biscuits) so the corners survive a hundred years of opening and closing. The lid sits flush, with a piano hinge or a hidden quadrant hinge depending on the design.

Inside: removable trays with felt-lined compartments, sized for whatever the recipient actually wears — long necklaces want a different layout from rings and earrings. We ask up front and lay the trays accordingly.

Decorative options: a contrasting-wood or mother-of-pearl inlay on the lid; an engraved monogram on the front edge; a small lock on the front (mostly symbolic — the dovetails are the real security). Finishes: hardwax oil or shellac for a satin lustre.
