Mediterranean 110 cm speargun

The diver who commissioned this gun hunts off Atlit and asked for something that would track a tuna at 4 m without the muzzle climb you get from a top-heavy stock. We started with iroko rather than teak for the weight savings, and put a 50 g lead counterweight in the rear of the handle.

The rail is set 8 mm above the trigger line — just enough to keep the shaft off the muzzle on a strong shot, low enough to keep the recoil arm short. We milled a clean track for the shaft over the full length so there is no bowing under the bands.

Twin 16 mm bands are anchored at the muzzle with a brass insert — replaceable, because bands are consumables. The wishbone is dyneema rather than wire; quieter on release and easier to change at sea.

Finish is three coats of teak oil hot-rubbed on consecutive evenings. The gun shipped with a custom shaft, a spare set of bands, and a printed care sheet — wood guns hate sitting wet in a car boot.
